Pacific National provides rail freight services to customers throughout Australia. In undertaking that business it may from time to time be necessary for us to collect, handle and store personal information.

Pacific National is committed to the National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988. The purpose of this privacy statement is to explain how Pacific National collects, uses and protects your personal information in accordance with the National Privacy Principles. This statement applies to any personal information that might be provided to us by customers, employees or other members of the public.

Information collected by Pacific National

Pacific National collects personal information about its employees, customers, suppliers, contractors and others that it may deal with in conducting its business as a rail freight provider. Pacific National collects personal information for the following purposes:

• Establishing and maintaining of records of our customers, suppliers, contractors and others with whom we conduct business to enable us to provide a quality and cost effective service;
• To facilitate distribution of corporate communications relevant to our business activities; and
• To comply with all regulatory, safety and legal requirements.

Information collected includes contact details, transaction records and some financial and credit details.

Pacific National also collects and uses employee information although that use and collection is largely exempt from the requirements of the Privacy Act.

How We Collect and Store Information

Pacific National may collect personal information when you undertake transactions with us by telephone, send correspondence (whether by letter, fax or email) or if you contact us in person.

Personal information collected by Pacific National is either stored in paper form or stored in computer databases within Pacific National’s computer network. Information stored in that computer network is subject to various security processes to protect its confidentiality.

Disclosure of Personal Information to Third Parties

Pacific National may disclose your personal information to third parties, for example, to our sub-contractors or other freight carriers for the purpose for which the information was collected or for a related purpose. We may also disclose your personal information to law enforcement agencies and governments if required. Personal information may also be shared between related companies in the Pacific National group where necessary.

If we disclose information to a third party such as a contractor, that third party is prohibited from using personal information except for the specific purpose for which it was supplied.

Except as described above, Pacific National will not disclose your personal information without your consent unless that disclosure is necessary to prevent a threat to life or health, is authorised or required by law or is necessary to investigate a suspected unlawful activity.

Access to Personal Information & Correcting Information

Pacific National will provide you with access to any information held about you on request unless we are not required to do so under the Privacy Principles. We are entitled to ask you for any reasonable costs of supplying you with access to this information. Pacific National will only disclose personal information to the actual person concerned or to a properly authorised person.

Keeping Your Personal Information Up To Date

We will always attempt to ensure that your personal information is accurate, complete, and up-to-date whenever we collect or use it. However, if the personal information we hold is inaccurate, incomplete or out-of-date you can contact Pacific National and we will take reasonable steps to correct this information.

Changes to This Privacy Statement

Pacific National may amend this Privacy Statement from time to time in line with our business requirements or with any changes in the law. Amendments to this Privacy Statement will be made available on our website pacificnational.com.au.
